KINMEN (TVBS News) — An independent councilor on Monday (Nov. 25) called for improved transportation infrastructure to protect residents' rights as the number of Chinese tourists visiting Kinmen increases. Independent Councilor Tung Sen-po (董森堡) made this appeal during the county magistrate's report.

Tung urged the Kinmen County Government to set a timeline for opening up to Chinese tourists and enhance transportation arrangements. He warned that rising Chinese visitors could impact residents' transportation needs, emphasizing the importance of planning to handle the influx.

Tung noted that the recent daily arrivals of Chinese tourists have exceeded 1,000, suggesting that the government should consider capacity control measures.

Concerns also arose about the potential increase in Taiwanese travelers using Kinmen as a transit point to China if the government adds more "Mini Three Links" (小三通) ferry services. Tung suggested reserving some flight seats for Kinmen residents or expanding flight services to prevent disruptions in residents' travel plans.

Kinmen County Magistrate Chen Fu-hai (陳福海) responded by pledging to prioritize local residents and engage in discussions with various departments to safeguard their interests. As the situation develops, the county's approach to balancing tourism growth with residents' needs remains a critical focus.
