TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH, 台大醫院) issued a warning about a new scam involving fake medical insurance contracts on Tuesday (Dec. 3). In a press release, the NTUH clarified that fraudsters have been sending letters, falsely using the name of NTUH President Wu Ming-shiang (吳明賢), to offer lifetime medical insurance coverage with all costs supposedly covered by the hospital.

Concerned individuals have recently contacted NTUH to verify the authenticity of these letters. The documents claim to provide free lifetime medical insurance, purportedly as part of an agreement reflecting Wu's commitment to the well-being of Taiwanese citizens. The scam targets randomly selected local residents, promising immediate coverage upon contract signing and urging recipients to maintain confidentiality due to limited availability.

NTUH confirmed these letters were fraudulent and cautioned the public against being deceived by the realistic-looking documents. The hospital suspects the scam originates from China but has not reported it to the police, opting instead to alert the public.
