HSINCHU, Taiwan (TVBS News) — United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC, 聯華電子) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 18) the signing of a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with Fengmiao I Offshore Wind Farm (渢妙一期風場), developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' (CIP) flagship fund, CI V (第五號旗艦基金). This miltestone underscores UMC's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and 100% renewable energy use by 2050.
According to the agreement, UMC (NYSE: UMC; TWSE: 2303) will procure over 30 billion kilowatt-hours of power from Fengmiao I over at least 30 years, marking the company's largest renewable energy deal to date. This initiative aims to reach 50% renewable energy use by 2030, advancing UMC's sustainability goals and its corporate roadmap to net zero.
At the signing event, UMC Vice President TS Wu (吳宗賢) highlighted the significance of the agreement, describing it as a milestone in the company's net-zero journey. Wu emphasized UMC's dedication to sustainable development and carbon reduction goals, noting the company's efforts to reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency.

Thomas Wibe Poulsen, APAC Regional Partner for CIP's Flagship Funds and Chairman of Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm (渢妙風場), commended UMC, a leading global semiconductor firm, for partnering with Fengmiao. He affirmed the market's confidence in CIP's capability to deliver offshore wind projects.
UMC's net-zero roadmap, based on science-based targets, involves three strategic actions: proactive carbon emission reduction, achieving 100% renewable energy usage, and investment in net-zero technologies. In 2023, UMC Group reduced its scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 26% from 2020 levels, surpassing its 2030 target ahead of schedule. Consequently, UMC has set a more ambitious 42% reduction goal by 2030 to accelerate its net-zero transition.
