TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese pop star A-mei (張惠妹) sparked controversy with her concerts at Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) on Dec. 21-22, as nearby residents complained about vibrations similar to an earthquake. The events, drawing large crowds, raised concerns about the impact of mass gatherings on local communities.
Wu Chien-te (吳建德), neighborhood chief of Xinren Village (新仁里) in Xinyi District (信義區), criticized Taipei's Department of Sports (台北市體育局) for its inaction. Wu noted that residents reported issues on the first day, describing tremors in nearby homes due to concertgoers' collective jumping. Despite these complaints, no restrictions were imposed.
In response, Taipei's Department of Sports clarified that Farglory Group (遠雄) is responsible for building and operating the Taipei Dome. The department has requested Farglory to monitor vibrations and provide scientific explanations to the public, emphasizing that while concerts are private activities, Farglory must fulfill its community responsibilities.
Farglory Group assured that the dome's structure and resonance data meet regulatory standards under scientific monitoring. The company maintains that the venue adheres to safety guidelines and addresses residents' concerns.
