TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) hosted military journalists in Taichung on Tuesday (Dec. 24) to showcase the latest simulator systems from the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST, 中山科學研究院) — a Taiwanese state-owned corporation, that develops, manufactures, and sells defense technology and weapons.

Yeh Chia-fan (葉嘉範), director of the Aeronautical Systems Research Division, NCSIST, presented eight systems, including the debut of a flight experience platform, a mobile drone flight simulator, and a general-purpose flight simulation verification platform. Since 1993, NCSIST has collaborated with international firms, beginning with the F-CK-1 Ching-kuo fighter jets (經國號戰機), to master simulator technology.

The institute has developed over 240 simulation systems for land, sea, and air military needs and civilian applications, such as the Taiwan High-Speed Rail and Taiwan Railways simulators. Featured systems include virtual reality for urban combat scenarios, drone flight, and railway driving.

The flight experience platform integrates a six-axis motion platform, a drive controller, and a general-purpose cockpit, offering six degrees of freedom at a lower cost than foreign products. Meanwhile, the mobile drone flight simulator simplifies to a console and system cabinet, featuring realistic graphical instrumentation for drone flight and reconnaissance training.

The institute also demonstrated advanced data processing and analysis capabilities, enabling commanders to quickly assess battlefield situations by identifying targets and analyzing intelligence through AI technology from real-time drone images and data. NCSIST plans to further develop key technologies to meet military training needs and promote "simulation + AI" applications in dual-use industries.
