TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Prosecutors Office (台北地檢署) confirmed on Monday (Dec. 30) it will appeal the bail decision for Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), and three others involved in the Core Pacific City (京華城) and political donations cases, following the Taipei District Court's decision to increase Ko's bail from NT$30 million to NT$70 million.
Ko initially posted NT$30 million bail last Friday, prompting an appeal from the prosecutors. The High Court revoked the original bail decision on Sunday, leading to a new detention hearing. Late Sunday night, the court then ruled Ko must post an additional NT$40 million, wear an electronic ankle monitor, and face an eight-month travel restriction.
Ko's wife, Peggy Chen (陳佩琪), rushed to secure the funds Monday morning, arriving at the court to finalize the bail in the afternoon. The couple returned home around 4 p.m. before heading to the hospital in Hsinchu to visit Ko's father. Ko changed from a white jacket to a dark blue suit, and Chen donned a red coat for the visit. Despite initial crowd-related delays, the couple reached their destination. "Ko voluntarily wore an electronic ankle monitor so he is able to visit his father, who is lying in a Hsinchu hospital due to terminal cancer," said TPP legislator Vivian Huang (黃珊珊).
