NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Environmental Protection Department (新北市政府環境保護局) announced Monday (Jan. 13) that authorities issued 114 fines to pet owners in 2024 for failing to clean up after their dogs. The maximum penalty for such an offense reaches NT$6,000, the department said, adding that officials have urged residents to maintain environmental hygiene by promptly disposing of pet waste.
Since 2021, the Environmental Protection Department has promoted the installation of "New Taipei Cute Shiba Inu Poop Bag Boxes" (新北可愛柴狗便(袋)箱), with 215 units now available citywide. This initiative aims to encourage responsible pet ownership and cleanliness in public spaces. Pets Mall Co. (魚中魚樂活公司) has supported this effort by sponsoring the production of 100,000 poop bags annually since 2022.
Officials emphasize the importance of pet owners cleaning up after their pets to prevent environmental health issues. They remind residents to report any issues with the poop bag boxes, such as empty or dirty containers, by contacting the management unit indicated on the box's right side. The department's proactive measures reflect its commitment to maintaining a cleaner and more pleasant environment for all.
