TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Mobile payment integration in Taiwan's healthcare sector will advance on Wednesday (Jan. 15) with the launch of an upgraded medical service app. This development, developed in partnership with 150 medical institutions, aims to streamline patient billing processes by allowing payments via smartphones, thus eliminating the need for hospital visits or long queues.
The Financial Supervisory Commission (金管會) reported that mobile payment transactions in Taiwan surpassed NT$1.8 trillion in the third quarter of 2024, marking a nearly 20% increase compared to the previous year.
The app was developed by the Da Guang Healthcare Consulting Co. Wu Ming-yen (吳明彥), secretary-general of the Taiwan Nongovernmental Hospitals and Clinics Association, highlighted the trust users place in the app, evidenced by its download and transaction numbers. Wu noted that mobile payments simplify the billing process, especially for those engaged in telemedicine.
Wu elaborated on the app's upgrade, stating that the app has undergone a comprehensive enhancement based on user feedback and hospital collaboration experiences. The app now features improved password security, biometric identification, card binding with 3D verification, additional payment tools, and a charity donation function, all adhering to the latest security standards.
