NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced on Wednesday (Jan. 15) that over 280 publicly listed AI supply chain companies operate in the city, further inviting international investment to the region. Hou highlighted the presence of major tech firms, including ASML, Google, Tesla, Mitsui, and Argox, as part of the city's robust AI industry chain.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) will visit Taiwan this week to attend the year-end party of the company's Taiwan branch and meet with local supply chain manufacturers. Rumors suggest Nvidia's headquarters may establish a presence in Taipei. Minister of the National Development Council (NDC, 國發會) Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) noted on Tuesday at the inauguration of a startup base in Silicon Valley, that Nvidia's Asia R&D center is located in Kaohsiung.
At the same time, AMD has chosen Shalun in Tainan for its R&D center. Liu also explained that Nvidia's Asia headquarters will be in Taipei and is expected to house 2,500 employees. However, the NDC later clarified that Nvidia will announce the headquarters' location.
In addition to New Taipei City, the Taipei, Taichung, and Keelung governments have expressed their willingness to host Nvidia's headquarters, reflecting a competitive and welcoming environment for tech giants. The developments signal a promising future for Taiwan's tech landscape as local governments and international companies collaborate to bolster the region's global AI supply chain position.
