TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) legislator on Wednesday (Jan.15) expressed her enthusiasm for Nvidia's possible establishment of its Asian headquarters in Nangang (南港), emphasizing that Taiwan should not solely rely on the high-tech sector. KMT Legislator Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀) highlighted Nangang and Neihu (內湖) as crucial hubs for Taiwan's tech and biomedical advancement.
Lee stated that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) appreciates the area's industrial completeness and transportation convenience, showing confidence in Taipei's living environment. She believes that Nvidia's presence would be a source of pride for Taipei and Taiwan, setting a benchmark for future multinational and high-tech investments.
However, Lee underscored that Nvidia's establishment in Taipei is just the beginning. She identified essential factors for Nvidia's long-term success, including quality living conditions, stable energy supply, and a peaceful environment. Lee stated that these elements could attract international talent, meet the AI industry's energy demands, and reassure investors.
Lee also urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) government to enhance the competitiveness of both traditional and tech industries to address economic disparities and strengthen the overall economy. She pointed out that industrial imbalance and growing wealth gaps pose risks to Taiwan's economic and social stability, advocating for improvements in the manufacturing sector and service industry upgrades.
