TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Orthodox Luermen Shengmu Temple (正統鹿耳門聖母廟) in Tainan City will host the "2025 Luermen Mazu Temple Fireworks Show" on Saturday (Feb. 8), illuminating the night sky on the eve of the Lantern Festival. Known as "Taiwan's Forbidden City" (台版紫禁城), this historic temple, over 400 years old, is the largest Mazu temple in Southeast Asia.

The temple conducts its annual "Fireworks Carnival" (花火嘉年華) on the eve of the Lantern Festival, drawing large crowds and photography enthusiasts. This year's event will feature traditional blessings and folk art activities during the day.

The temple's "Surrounding Temple Fireworks Show" (環廟式煙火秀) has gained fame for its uniqueness and spectacular visual effects, previously enlisting international high-altitude fireworks designers to complement the temple's architecture and design.

Organizers invite renowned fireworks design teams annually to create a one-of-a-kind display. In 2024, the temple launched over 20 minutes of fireworks, attracting thousands of visitors. Attendees can explore a vibrant night market on Thursdays and Saturdays in the temple's plaza, enjoying 70 to 80 stalls offering local delicacies, games, and miscellaneous goods.

Visiting the night market on Thursday is advisable, as it offers more stalls and a lively atmosphere, providing unforgettable memories alongside the fireworks. As anticipation builds for this year's event, attendees can look forward to a unique cultural experience blending tradition with modern spectacle.
