YILAN (TVBS News) — Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area (太平山國家森林遊樂區) experienced a stunning natural phenomenon early Thursday (Jan. 16) morning as temperatures plummeted to minus 1 degree Celsius. Although the snow did not fall, the frost-covered wooden walkways and rime ice on tree branches created a breathtaking scene, enhanced by a spectacular sea of clouds and a radiant sunrise.

Since the onset of winter, temperatures at the 2,000-meter elevation of Taipingshan (太平山) have frequently dipped below zero, but snow remains elusive. On Thursday morning, the lowest temperature recorded was -1°C, resulting in a thin layer of frost and rime ice on the trees. As the sun rose, these icy formations began to melt.

Staff captured the sunrise, clouds, and rime ice, creating a picturesque image reminiscent of a silver-white forest painting. The release of these images prompted online reactions, with netizens expressing admiration for the beauty. However, those eager to witness a snow-covered landscape must wait longer.
