TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (台積電) will not become "American Semiconductor," Chairman C.C. Wei (魏哲家) declared during a speech at National Taiwan University's (台灣大學) EMBA program on Friday (Jan. 17). He called it, "Impossible," emphasizing the company's commitment to expanding investment in Taiwan.

Wei highlighted TSMC's critical role in the global economy, which would face challenges without the company. He mentioned that TSMC's contributions affect consumer products such as cars, mobile phones, and refrigerators. He explained TSMC's business model, underscoring its close collaboration with clients and its design capabilities that help clients succeed.

Wei noted that TSMC's new wafer process reduces energy consumption by 30%, producing more energy-efficient chip products. This innovation supports global energy conservation efforts. He also stated that 80% of the world's wafers manufactured using processes below seven nanometers come from Taiwan, and TSMC exclusively produces 100% of the world's AI chips.

Wei further emphasized that all five of the world's largest companies by market capitalization are TSMC clients. He warned that the global economy would essentially halt without TSMC's contributions. As TSMC continues innovating and expanding its influence, its commitment to Taiwan remains unwavering.
