TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Land Management Agency (國土管理署) announced on Sunday (Jan. 20) that it plans to allocate an additional NT$20 billion to support policies promoting social housing and housing subsidies in 2025. The agency emphasized that these funds are crucial for expanding rental subsidy projects and directly constructing social housing, among other initiatives.
Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌), the head of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) legislative caucus, criticized the land management plan for failing to launch on schedule. He noted that the agency's 2025 budget has ballooned to NT$41.4 billion. The agency clarified that the 2025 budget primarily supports social housing initiatives and housing subsidies unrelated to land management plan implementation.
The agency reiterated that major expenditures for 2025 include expanded central rental subsidy projects, direct construction of social housing, and youth-friendly home loan interest incentives. It warned that the TPP's proposal to cut and freeze NT$4.1 billion of the agency's budget would severely impact citizens' housing rights.
The agency urged the Legislative Yuan (立法院) to support the proposed budget, highlighting that reducing government funds affects citizens' basic living needs. The National Land Management Agency called for pragmatic and rational discussions from the TPP caucus regarding the proposed budget content and basis.
