TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Career platforms reported on Wednesday (Jan. 22) that Taiwan's tech industry product managers with over four years of experience earn only NT$951,298 (around US$29,010) annually, even after adjusting for the cost of living. In stark contrast, product managers with similar experience in the Bay Area earn an average annual salary of NT$7,865,256 (US$239,852).

Salary.tw (比薪水) attributed this disparity to unclear role definitions in Taiwanese companies. Many firms conflate the roles of product managers and project managers, requiring PMs to handle market research, product planning, and project management without corresponding salary increases.

In contrast, foreign companies clearly differentiate between PM roles. Product managers focus on market research, product strategy, and user experience, while project managers handle execution and management. This clear division allows PMs to concentrate on innovation, enhancing product competitiveness.

Salary.tw noted Taiwan's tech industry's transformation, with startups and foreign enterprises offering new opportunities for PMs. As product innovation gains importance, experts suggest PMs prioritize companies with robust development processes and supportive cultures. Choosing such environments can help PMs leverage their skills and achieve career goals.
