YUNLIN (TVBS News) — The magistrate of Yunlin County (雲林縣) assured residents on Friday (Jan. 24) of a stable supply of vegetables and meat as the Lunar New Year approaches. Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) noted a slight increase in pork prices compared to last year but emphasized affordable leafy greens, urging citizens to maintain a balanced diet.
Chang visited Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Distribution Market (西螺果菜批發市場), Yunlin County Meat Market (雲林縣肉品市場), and Leadray Company (立瑞畜產) to assess the supply and auction status of produce and livestock. She highlighted Yunlin County's role as Taiwan's largest supplier of vegetables and meat, stressing the government's responsibility to ensure a stable supply.
Tsai Te-fu (蔡德福), chairman of Xiluo Market, reported a daily average transaction volume of over 900 metric tons, with an average trading price of NT$24 per kilogram, thanks to stable weather. Huang Chia-an (黃加安), general manager of Yunlin Meat Market, noted that the 2024 pig auction reached about 670,000 heads, accounting for nearly 10.8% of Taiwan's total, with an average price of NT$95.5 per kilogram, slightly higher than last year.
Wang Ya-hui (王雅慧), chairman of Leadray Company, stated that chicken slaughtering increased before the holiday, with stable prices for white and colored chickens at NT$33.8 and NT$53 per catty, respectively. The Yunlin Meat Market will continue auctions until the following Monday, pausing for six days and resuming with an estimated average price of NT$93 per kilogram.
