TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's boy band Energy topped Hit Fm's (Hit Fm聯播網) annual "Top 100 Singles of the Year" (年度百首單曲) poll with their hit track "Friday Night" from the album "Here I Am." The announcement came on Jan. 19, and the popular dance track, accompanied by the viral E16 squat move, captured the hearts of many, becoming the most talked-about song of 2024.
Energy, which made a comeback last year with "Here I Am," had three songs featured in the top 100 list. Hit Fm prepared a champion banner for the winning song, which DJ A-Juan (阿娟) presented. Energy members expressed their surprise upon seeing the banner, initially thinking it was a mistake. They exclaimed disbelief at winning the 2024 Hit Fm annual top 100 singles title.
Reflecting on their achievement, Energy admitted the win still felt surreal. They extended heartfelt thanks to their fans, acknowledging that "Friday Night" played a crucial role in their successful return to the music scene in 2024. The group also expressed satisfaction at finally surpassing their previous hit "Let Go" (放手).
Fans eagerly anticipate what Energy will bring next, as their recent success has reignited their presence in the Mandarin pop music industry.
