TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Monday (Feb. 3) a comprehensive ban on DeepSeek AI services within government agencies to safeguard national information security. During an Executive Yuan (行政院) meeting, Premier Cho emphasized the need for generative AI applications to align with legal frameworks and openness, citing copyright law concerns regarding DeepSeek AI's data sources.

Cho highlighted potential cybersecurity risks associated with DeepSeek AI, including data uploads to China, which remain unresolved and could violate personal data protection and privacy. The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數位發展部) stipulated that public universities and research institutions must obtain approval through proper procedures before using DeepSeek AI services.

Minister without Portfolio Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) recommended that universities and research institutions with academic research needs download and use the AI service offline on single computers without personal data to ensure security. Vice Premier Cheng Chun (鄭麗君) noted Taiwan's necessity for further AI technology development while remaining cautious of cybersecurity risks associated with related services.

Cho reiterated Taiwan's commitment to the rule of law, urging government officials to strengthen AI legal frameworks and data governance regulations to foster AI industry development.
