TAIPEI (TVBS News)—A cold air mass has driven temperatures down across Taiwan, with Taipei hitting 10.4 degrees Celsius early Tuesday (Feb. 4), just meeting the cold wave threshold. New Taipei's Wugu (五股) District saw the lowest temperature at 7.1°C, followed by Shiding (石碇) at 7.7°C, Sanwan (三灣) at 7.8°C, and Tamsui (淡水) at 7.9°C.
WeatherRisk analyst Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) reported that as drier air moved in, relative humidity dropped to 70% by 8 a.m., raising temperatures to 11.6°C. Wu noted that today is the coldest day of this cold air mass, with temperatures remaining low across the regions. He advised caution as another temperature dip is expected tonight, with lows of 8-10°C in northern areas and 11-13°C in southern regions.
Despite a slight rise in temperatures tomorrow, increased moisture will lead to cloudier skies and possible rain, limiting the warming effect. Highs will range from 16-18°C in the north and northeast, 18-20°C in central and eastern regions, and 20-22°C in the south. While rain will decrease today, some areas may still experience brief showers, and mountain regions could see isolated sleet or snow.
Wu cautioned that on Thursday, rain will reduce in the north and east as temperatures slightly rise. However, a new front will bring another cold wave by Friday, potentially reaching cold wave thresholds again through the weekend.
