KEELUNG (TVBS News) — Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang (謝國樑) announced Wednesday (Feb. 5) plans to evaluate the use of DeepSeek, following Taipei City's lead in response to national security concerns.
The Executive Yuan (行政院) recently banned the AI model developed by the Chinese startup due to cybersecurity risks. A day earlier, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) emphasized the ban aims to prevent information leaks within government agencies.
During a Lunar New Year gathering at the Keelung City Council, Hsieh acknowledged international competition, stating he would seek unified advice from Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan. He noted American business news channel CNBC's detailed report on DeepSeek's innovations, asserting that innovation isn't harmful. The Keelung mayor vows to align his decision-making with regional consensus.
Taipei City already prohibits using cloud-based generative AI, such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek, for sensitive operations. Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) reiterated this policy on Tuesday, highlighting its importance for maintaining security.
