TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Local media outlets reported on Wednesday (Feb. 5) that the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT, 美國在台協會) has updated its website, listing Laura Rosenberger as a former chair, indicating her term ended in 2025.
Rosenberger, appointed in March 2023, previously served over a decade in various roles in the State Department and National Security Council (NSC), including as its senior director for China and Taiwan.
During her tenure as a chair of AIT, Rosenberger visited Taiwan at least six times. Her most recent visit was in May 2024 for the inauguration of President Lai Ching-te (賴清德). Her last tweet as AIT chair came in December 2024 while she was on maternity leave. The reason behind her departure remains unclear, although U.S. President Donald Trump announced the dismissal of four senior officials appointed by former President Joe Biden on Jan. 21.
Past AIT chairs have varied term lengths; Rosenberger's predecessor, James Moriarty, served for over six years.
