TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒), Taiwan's table tennis ace, advanced to the quarterfinals on Thursday (Feb. 6) at the 2025 Singapore Smash after defeating Brazil's Hugo Calderano.
Lin, ranked 12th globally, surged to an early 8-2 lead in the opening set and comfortably sealed it with scores of 11-7, 14-16, 11-9, and 11-6.
Both players battled through five deuces in the second set before Calderano leveled the match. Lin regained momentum in the third set, clinching it after a series of ties with strategic mid-to-long-range rallies. Calderano received a time-delay warning from the referee in the fourth set, and Lin capitalized by scoring four consecutive points from a 5-3 lead, sealing his victory.
Beyond singles, Lin and his partner Kao Cheng-jui (高承睿) reached the semifinals in men's doubles.
