TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) announced Tuesday (Feb. 11) that Taiwan is considering offering reciprocal short-term driving privileges to Estonian visitors.
Estonia recently granted Taiwanese drivers the right to drive in the country for up to 12 months using their original Taiwanese licenses, international driving permits, and Estonian translations of these documents.
Deputy Director General Li Hsiu-yao (李秀窈) of the Department of European Affairs (歐洲司) explained that Taiwanese citizens can translate their licenses into Estonian through translators listed on Estonia's Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs website. The translation service costs approximately €60 to €100 (around NT$2,028 to NT$3,380). After translation, individuals can obtain the document within two to three business days without needing validation from Taiwanese foreign offices.
MOFA expressed gratitude for Estonia's gesture and revealed that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOCT, 交通部) is evaluating the possibility of offering similar privileges to Estonian drivers.
Li advised travelers and business visitors to Greece to remain vigilant, heed government announcements, and avoid hazardous areas.
