Budget proposal faces major hurdles (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Executive Yuan (行政院) spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) said on Tuesday (Feb. 18) that the Executive Yuan plans to explore legal and constitutional remedies upon receiving the budget proposal after cross-party discussions in the Legislative Yuan (立法院) reached no consensus.

She noted that the discussions neither resolved the administration's challenges nor met the public's expectation for rational discussions in the Legislative Yuan.

Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) convened cross-party discussions earlier in the day to discuss the Central Government's General Budget (中央政府總預算) for 2025, but the meeting failed to reach an agreement.

Lee mentioned that the Executive Yuan hopes the Legislative Yuan will reevaluate the critical contents in the budget proposal, including significant reductions and freezes, total cuts, and the stringent process required to "unfreeze" budgets.

Meanwhile, Lee expressed gratitude to President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) for inviting the five government branches to meet on Feb. 10 and also thanked Han for organizing the cross-party discussions.

Moreover, Lee reiterated the Executive Yuan's commitment to ensuring the government's operation and continuing to enforce policies that benefit the nation.
