TAITUNG (TVBS News) — The Jin-shui Camp Trail (浸水營國家步道), a historic route in southern Taiwan, will reopen on Friday (Feb. 28) after a seven-month closure due to typhoon damage, announced by the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency Taitung Branch, Ministry of Agriculture (農業部林業及自然保育署) on Tuesday. Four typhoons, including Kaemi (凱米), Krathon (山陀兒), Kong-rey (康芮), and Usagi (天兔), struck the trail last July, causing landslides and severe road damage.
Located in the broadleaf forests of southern Taiwan, the trail spans 15.9 kilometers, connecting Pingtung County's Dahan Forest Road (大漢林道) to Taitung County's Kalapan Tribe (加羅板部落). Known for its low crossing point and high usage, the trail is popular among hikers, taking approximately six to eight hours to traverse. The Taitung branch completed repairs and debris clearing to ensure hiker safety.
The branch advises hikers to remain vigilant due to potential regional rainfall and rockfalls. They recommend thorough planning and checking trail conditions, including Dahan Forest Road updates. Visitors should practice Leave No Trace principles, carrying out all trash and minimizing wildlife disturbance.
