TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (台電) announced on Tuesday (March 4) that it will maintain its nuclear power division, ensuring the retention of nuclear technology personnel to uphold safety standards. This statement came through a press release, countering Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Legislator Ko Chih-en's (柯志恩) claim that the division would be dismantled following the shutdown of the Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant (核三廠) Unit 2 on May 17.
Taiwan Power Company stated it will dynamically assess its organizational structure and allocate appropriate personnel as nuclear plants gradually enter the decommissioning phase. The company aims to ensure the inheritance and accumulation of nuclear expertise. Taiwan Power Company emphasized the need for a significant number of professionals to assist with decommissioning efforts and to focus on developing new nuclear technology, preparing for workforce and technology transformation.
Meanwhile, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) and Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) both reported they had not been informed of any plans to dismantle the nuclear power division.
