TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities in Taipei announced on Wednesday (March 5) the arrest of a 30-year-old man, identified only by his surname Li, for illegally cultivating marijuana in his residence. Police seized 62 marijuana plants and dried cannabis flowers, sending the case to prosecutors for further investigation.
Li, who works in logistics, converted his home into an indoor marijuana farm using equipment such as automatic lighting and watering systems. He learned the cultivation techniques through online resources. The Taipei City Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division (台北市警察局刑事警察大隊) received intelligence about suspected marijuana cultivation in a residence in Sanchong District (三重區), New Taipei City.
In collaboration with the Taoyuan City and New Taipei City police departments, the task force tracked and monitored Li for several months. They searched his residence in late February, discovering the small indoor farm. The operation led to the confiscation of 62 marijuana plants, 20 grams of dried cannabis flowers, and related cultivation equipment. Li admitted to purchasing marijuana seeds from foreign websites and claimed the cultivation was for personal use.
Authorities have charged Li with drug offenses, and the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office (新北地檢署) is handling the case.
