TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Anti-fraud Command Center (行政院打詐指揮中心) reported Monday (March 10) a significant decline in fraud cases since December, where investment-related scams have dropped from an average of 186 cases per day to 90, marking a 48% reduction. Meanwhile, non-investment scams have also decreased by 20%, from 314 to 250 cases daily, showcasing the effectiveness of the government's anti-fraud initiatives.
The Anti-fraud Command Center credited the government's new-generation anti-fraud strategy, version 2.0, for these results. This strategy focuses on enhancing fraud detection and prevention through targeted crime prevention campaigns. The government has also expanded awareness efforts by collaborating with the beauty and hairdressing industries to educate the public about fraud tactics.
In response to evolving fraud tactics, the government has prioritized using artificial intelligence, strengthening cross-border cooperation, regulating key industries, and enhancing victim protection. The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數發部) has also mandated platforms like Google, YouTube, Line, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to remove fraudulent ads and messages.
In addition, the Anti-fraud Command Center has developed an online fraud reporting and inquiry platform that uses AI to assess suspicious ads. Moreoever, the National Communications Commission (NCC, 國家通訊傳播委員會) has instructed telecom companies to integrate with the police database to prevent fraudsters from abusing telecom services.
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC, 金管會) has amended regulations to include virtual asset service providers in anti-money laundering efforts, imposing penalties on illegal operators. The Ministry of Justice (法務部) has employed technology to enhance fraud investigations, affirming the effectiveness of the strategy:
