TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxconn's electric buses, Chunghwa Telecom's resilient networks, and Quanta Computer's greener AI data centers will headline Taiwan's Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE, 智慧城市展) next week, industry leaders revealed Tuesday (March 11).
This year, the Smart City expo will host exhibitors from over 59 countries and regions with nearly 3,000 foreign participants expected to attend. The event will showcase innovations addressing urban challenges with a sustainability focus.
James Wu (巫俊毅), vice president of Hon Hai Technology Group (鴻海科技集團), also called Foxconn, emphasized their commitment to sustainable transportation. He highlighted their electric buses already operating in Taipei and Kaohsiung City, noting, "The current agenda is how to sustain the globe, so how to have a very clean vehicle, electric vehicle."
Wu also revealed Foxconn's recent Memorandum of Understanding with Mexico's Sonora state, describing it as a milestone: "This is the first case that we are able to duplicate our Smart City solutions from Taiwan to oversee countries."
Chunghwa Telecom's contributions focus on robust network infrastructure. Jay Huang (黃建勛), managing director of Chunghwa Telecom International Business Group (中華電信國際電信分公司), emphasized network resilience and global partnerships. The company plans to leverage AI and big data analytics to address traffic congestion, building networks spanning space, terrestrial, and submarine cable systems.
Quanta Computer's (廣達電腦股份有限公司) Chief Technology Officer Ted Chang (張嘉淵) outlined their environmental initiatives. "We want to make a greener AI data center throughout technology, on the hardware side," Chang stated. He stressed developing smaller AI models with improved power efficiency, aiming to enhance large language model outcomes while reducing energy consumption through smarter monitoring.
As the expo approaches, participating companies are preparing to demonstrate solutions that address urbanization challenges while adhering to environmental, social, and governance principles. The event represents a significant advancement in the global pursuit of smarter, more sustainable urban environments.
