TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Asia's largest smart city tradeshow, the Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE, 智慧城市展), opened on Tuesday (March 18) in Taipei. This year's event spotlights advanced AI applications, smart governance, deep energy savings, virtual power plants, net-zero sustainability, and global collaboration, setting the stage for transformative discussions and partnerships.

During his opening remarks, Chairman Paul S.L. Peng (彭双浪) of the Taipei Computer Association (台北電腦公會) underscored Taiwan's pivotal role in delivering trusted smart IoT technology solutions to foster global smart city development. He emphasized Taiwan's commitment to international collaboration to advance sustainable urban development and digital transformation.

Kao Shien-quey (高仙桂), deputy minister of the National Development Council (國發會), expressed hope that the exhibitions would highlight Taiwan's vibrant private sector. She remarked, "Taiwan possesses not only its hard power in semiconductor and AI manufacturing but also its soft power in digital and net-zero solutions."

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) highlighted two critical engines for the city's industrial growth: transforming Taipei into a founder-friendly city and an AI-driven smart city. He noted, "Last October, Taipei led the nation as the only city with AI operational guidelines." Meanwhile, Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Charles Lin (林欽榮) discussed the Sovereign AI Lighthouse Project (高雄智慧主權AI燈塔計畫), aligning with NVIDIA's vision of essential AI for cities.

This year, around 550 companies are participating in the exhibitions held in Taipei and Kaohsiung, utilizing over 2,000 booths. Organizers have arranged 63 forums to exhibit smart technology's impact on everyday life, drawing 35,000 professionals. The number of visiting dignitaries and professional buyers has surged by 40%, reaching over 3,100, a record high compared to last year's 2,200 attendees.
