TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a bold stride toward sustainability, the National Environmental Research Academy (NERA, 國家環境研究院) has unveiled an ambitious green-collar talent development course. Announced Monday (March 31), the program represents a collaboration with 28 universities and is set to open for registration online at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Designed to cultivate future leaders dedicated to achieving net-zero emissions, this initiative stands as a critical step in Taiwan's environmental strategy.
NERA's comprehensive approach includes the establishment of regional training centers across Taiwan's north, central, south, and east. Each participating university will charge a tuition fee of NT$12,000 (approximately US$361) per attendee. Notably, the program offers significant financial incentives: students under 30, except those enrolled in in-service programs, can benefit from tuition discounts. Those passing the initial test will receive a 50% discount, while low-income students are eligible for full tuition waivers.
The first session is scheduled for April 26 at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU, 國立台灣師範大學), serving as the northern training hub. Given the limited availability of initial sessions, NERA advises prospective participants to enroll promptly or consider alternative sessions at other affiliated universities if necessary. By year-end, the program aims to expand its reach, with partner institutions offering at least 60 sessions, accommodating over 2,400 aspiring green professionals.
In a commitment to quality education, class sizes will be limited to 40 students per session. Upon course completion, participants must pass an examination to earn certification from the Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部). The initial certification test is slated for late August, followed by a second in late November. NERA plans to administer three annual tests, with an ambitious goal of certifying at least 3,500 green-collar professionals beginning next year.
