TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Organizers announced on Tuesday (May 6) that the Taipei City Run (台北城市路跑賽) will kick off in front of the Presidential Office (總統府) on Sept. 14, with Japanese actress Chie Tanaka (田中千繪) serving as the event's ambassador. Tanaka, who gained fame through the film "Cape No. 7" (海角七號), has lived in Taiwan for many years and expressed her enthusiasm for the role.
At the press conference, Tanaka shared that running has transformed her lifestyle and hopes the event will inspire others to embrace the sport. This year marks the fifth consecutive year that Panasonic has sponsored the Taipei City Run, which features 3-kilometer and 12.5-kilometer races. Registration opens on Tuesday and will close on July 17.
The event will also feature Mika Yoshikawa (吉川美香), a former Japanese track star from the 2012 London Olympics, who will participate in the 12.5-kilometer race. Participants can engage with Yoshikawa during a 5-kilometer Shakeout Run and a sharing session before the main event. Her presence offers runners a unique chance to interact with an elite athlete.
