TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a strategic move to spotlight its technological prowess on the global stage, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) has partnered with Discovery Channel to produce an illuminating documentary titled "Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island." The film, which debuts Thursday (May 9) on Discovery Channel Taiwan, meticulously chronicles Taiwan's remarkable advances in artificial intelligence, portraying the democratic island as a critical hub in the worldwide technology ecosystem.

After its domestic premiere, the documentary will expand its reach beginning May 22, broadcasting across 19 countries and regions throughout Asia, including key markets in Southeast Asia, India, South Korea, and Japan. The production will subsequently become available worldwide via Discovery Channel's YouTube platform, ensuring global accessibility. Viewers will gain unprecedented insight into Taiwan's comprehensive AI ecosystem, with detailed explorations of the island's achievements in semiconductor chip design, process technology innovations, and sophisticated software-hardware integration services that power devices worldwide.

In an official statement, MOFA explained that the documentary delves into several groundbreaking Taiwanese technological initiatives, including revolutionary advancements in nanometer processing techniques, innovative AI visual systems for solar panel quality inspection, smart medical assistance programs deployed in Palau (a diplomatic ally in the Pacific), and semiconductor expertise training provided to the Czech Republic. These featured projects illustrate Taiwan's broader diplomatic strategy of cultivating substantive, mutually beneficial relationships with both formal diplomatic allies and like-minded democratic nations through technological cooperation.

The foreign ministry further emphasized that the documentary "AI Technology Island" spotlights the indispensable contribution of Taiwan-manufactured semiconductor chips to the global technology infrastructure. These sophisticated components serve as the essential foundation for AI supercomputers, smartphones, and massive data centers worldwide. The production deliberately underscores Taiwan's outsized influence in the international semiconductor supply chain and its emerging leadership in artificial intelligence technologies, domains where the island nation wields influence disproportionate to its geographic size.

This production represents the latest chapter in a long-running partnership between Taiwan's diplomatic corps and the international media company. Since initiating their collaboration in 2011, MOFA and Discovery Channel have jointly created seven documentary features exploring various facets of Taiwanese society and achievement. Their creative partnership has garnered significant recognition, most recently when their 2023 production "Taiwan's Culinary Stars" captured two prestigious honors at the 16th annual Taste Awards ceremony held in the United States. ★
