TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's young physicists captured international acclaim at the 25th Asian Physics Olympiad in Saudi Arabia, securing five gold and three silver medals late Saturday (May 11). The eight-member team ranked third overall among competitors from 29 countries and regions.
The Ministry of Education's (MOE, 教育部) K-12 Education Administration (K12EA, 教育部國民及學前教育署), Taiwan's primary education oversight body, reported that more than ten university professors trained the elite students. Officials selected the eight competitors from 2,405 candidates representing 159 schools nationwide. The team left Taiwan on May 3 for the prestigious international competition.
Taiwan's education ministry provides substantial incentives for international academic achievers, including university admission through recommendations or direct entry. Gold medalists receive scholarships of NT$100,000 (US$3,300), while silver medalists earn NT$50,000 (US$1,650) to support their continued academic excellence. ★
