TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Sports Department (新北市體育局), the athletics governing body for Taiwan's most populous municipality, unveiled plans Monday (May 12) for an ambitious series of cheerleading performances dubbed the "New Taipei Strong Fun Cheer Show" (新北Strong歡樂應援Show). The festivities at Banqiao Stadium Plaza will complement the 2025 Taipei and New Taipei World Masters Games, a major international sporting competition for senior athletes scheduled from May 17 to May 30.

The sports authority will stage 11 consecutive evening cheer performances at 7 p.m. daily from May 19 to 29, with each event taking place near a large installation of the Games' mascot, Strong (壯寶). Attendees can expect entertainment from street performers, interactive segments featuring popular children's characters from the YOYO Family and Pui Pui Molcar franchises, and spirited routines by the cheerleading squad from Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU, 輔仁大學), one of Taiwan's prestigious private institutions.

A towering version of Strong, the cartoonish mascot representing the Games, will be prominently displayed while a temporary retail outlet sells exclusive commemorative merchandise for visitors seeking mementos and photo opportunities. Officials emphasized that these attractions are designed to enhance the festive atmosphere surrounding the international competition. The initiative reflects New Taipei City's broader strategy to create a welcoming environment that builds camaraderie between international athletes and local spectators. ★
