TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwanese online travel agency ezTravel (易遊網) unveiled a strategic promotion Tuesday (May 13) aimed at tapping into the burgeoning concert tourism market. The company is offering special hotel discounts of up to NT$250 (approximately US$8.24) for fans attending performances by Mayday (五月天), one of Taiwan's most popular rock bands, at the newly constructed Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋), a major indoor stadium in the capital city.

The company has also created a comprehensive travel package specifically targeting Hong Kong music enthusiasts, featuring round-trip air transportation between Hong Kong and Taipei along with coveted tickets to Mayday's milestone "MAYDAY #5525 LIVE TOUR" 25th-anniversary concert (回到那一天25週年巡迴演唱會). Industry analysts view this strategy as part of the expanding "celebrity tourism" phenomenon, where travel providers increasingly integrate entertainment events into travel offerings to capitalize on what marketers call the "fan economy."

The ezTravel initiative mirrors recent moves by competing travel platform Klook, which created comparable packages for Lady Gaga's Singapore performances that combined premium concert access with luxury hotel accommodations. Tourism experts note these cross-sector partnerships between travel providers and entertainment companies reflect growing consumer appetite for comprehensive experience packages. The trend represents a significant shift in how travelers plan and budget for international trips centered around cultural events.

The rapidly accelerating "celebrity tourism" phenomenon has prompted travel industry competitors to develop increasingly creative and comprehensive offerings. Market observers expect this integration of travel services with entertainment experiences to continue expanding globally. Travel agencies throughout Asia are particularly focused on designing packages that appeal to devoted fan communities, recognizing the willingness of music enthusiasts to travel internationally for performances by their favorite artists. ★
