TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's government has completed "all necessary steps" to court NVIDIA (輝達) for its potential overseas headquarters, Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) confirmed Thursday (May 15). The announcement comes as NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) plans to visit the island, fueling speculation about whether Taiwan's capital might secure the coveted investment from the world's leading AI chip manufacturer.

During a Taipei City Council session, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Councillor Hung Wan-jen (洪婉臻) pressed Mayor Chiang for positive developments in the negotiations, but Chiang acknowledged no concrete progress had been made. The mayor nevertheless underscored the city's determination to secure NVIDIA's headquarters, promising an aggressive pursuit of the high-profile technology investment that could significantly boost Taiwan's status in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

Chen Chun-an (陳俊安), who heads Taipei's Department of Economic Development (產業發展局), revealed that NVIDIA has already requested information about potential sites within the city, which officials have promptly supplied for the company's evaluation. When Councillor Hung sought specifics regarding possible locations — including the TAIPEI EXPO PARK (花博園區), Nangang Marshalling Yard (南港調車場), and military properties adjacent to Songshan Airport (松山機場) — Chen declined to elaborate, citing confidentiality agreements related to NVIDIA's corporate strategy. Mayor Chiang intervened with a call for patience, reaffirming that municipal officials are working diligently to bring the technology giant to Taiwan's capital. ◼
