TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) opened in Geneva on Monday (May 19), with Taiwan showcasing its unwavering determination to secure a place in the global public health system through a series of side events. This year's Taiwan WHO Action Team highlights the nation's medical and technological prowess, beginning with a forum featuring Acer (宏碁) and Quanta (廣達), two major computer companies, discussing their advancements in AI-driven smart healthcare and international collaborations.

Health and Welfare Minister Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) emphasized the government's recent efforts to integrate the medical and technological sectors, enhancing Taiwan's strengths. Acer's Chief Medical Officer, Hsu Kai-cheng (許凱程), shared that their AI-assisted detection system has partnered with diplomatic allies such as Palau and Belize, as well as countries like Malaysia and Thailand. Hsu noted the system's high accuracy in bone density and eye disease detection, collaborating with local governments like Tainan City.

Quanta's representative, Hung Chung-hsi, presented the QOCA platform, an AI medical cloud developed for cancer screening. Hung humorously explained that the platform's name sounds like "quokka," aiming to bring a healthy smile to the world. The platform collaborates with 16 countries and 20 institutions to build models. The event, attended by nearly 100 participants, including representatives from allied nations, Taiwanese expatriates, youth delegates, and international medical professionals, underscores Taiwan's commitment to reinforcing its global image through its technological capabilities.
