TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City's government is mounting an aggressive response to employment challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) with a major recruitment initiative this week. The New Taipei City Labor Department (勞工局), the municipal agency overseeing workforce development, will host a substantial job fair on Thursday (June 5) featuring over 3,000 positions across multiple industries. The 5-hour event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city hall's sixth-floor auditorium, strategically timed to capture the influx of recent university graduates entering Taiwan's increasingly technology-driven job market.

In announcing the initiative, Labor Department Director Chen Jui-chia (陳瑞嘉) underscored the municipal government's forward-thinking strategy in creating direct connections between employers and job seekers. Chen pointed to a significant shift in corporate recruiting practices, noting that many participating companies have relaxed traditional qualification requirements to capture versatile candidates with diverse educational backgrounds. The fair will heavily emphasize Taiwan's robust tech manufacturing sector, with participation from industry leaders including semiconductor packaging specialist Xintec (精材科技), precision measurement firm Zoller Taiwan (台灣卓勒), industrial sensor manufacturer FineTek (桓達科技), petrochemical giant Nan Ya Plastics Corporation (南亞塑膠), and motion control systems provider TBI MOTION (全球傳動).

According to Labor Department statistics, approximately 50 percent of employers participating in the fair represent Taiwan's technology manufacturing ecosystem, with positions ranging from entry-level technicians to specialized engineers and sales professionals. The analysis reveals two dominant sectors — technology manufacturing and hospitality services — each constituting roughly 32 percent of available positions. Salary offerings appear competitive across industries, with chain pharmacies advertising monthly compensation packages of up to NT$75,000 (about US$2,502) for licensed pharmacists, while various firms seek accounting supervisors at starting salaries of NT$60,000 (approximately US$2,001) per month. The department also highlighted more than 600 part-time positions available at the event.

The large-scale recruitment event represents the latest effort in New Taipei City's ongoing economic development strategy, which emphasizes creating pathways to employment while helping traditional industries navigate technological transformation. Job seekers attending Thursday's fair will encounter opportunities spanning numerous sectors beyond technology and hospitality, with positions tailored to various education levels, experience requirements, and career aspirations. Labor officials encourage not only recent graduates but also career-changers and those seeking advancement to bring resumes and prepare for potential on-site interviews with hiring managers. ◼
