TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's cabinet approved a comprehensive home medical technology initiative Thursday (June 12), signaling a major shift toward community-based healthcare delivery across the island. The Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet, endorsed the "Vision and Action for Home Medical Technology" (在宅醫療科技願景與行動) report during its weekly meeting. Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) challenged government agencies to build a sustainable ecosystem that brings advanced medical and care services directly into homes and local communities.
The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC, 國科會), Taiwan's primary science policy body, unveiled an ambitious multi-ministry collaboration beginning next year to advance the "Home Medical Care Technology" (在宅醫療科技) policy framework. The partnership includes the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部), Ministry of Health and Welfare (MHW, 衛生福利部), and Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數位發展部) in a coordinated effort spanning technological innovation, system optimization, widespread adoption, and infrastructure development. The comprehensive approach aims to dramatically expand home medical technology applications while strengthening fundamental medical care services across Taiwan's healthcare system.
Cabinet spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) emphasized Premier Cho's vision of leveraging home medical care technology to extend comprehensive medical and care services into residential settings and local communities, supporting Taiwan's tiered medical system implementation. NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) announced a substantial NT$1 billion (around US$33.8 million) investment commitment for next year's home medical project launch. The initiative will begin with pilot programs in Taiwan's remote areas where healthcare access needs are most urgent, with broader policy promotion planned following successful trial completion. ◼
