TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Immigration Agency (移民署) announced on Tuesday (June 17) that Taiwan will implement an online arrival card system for foreign travelers starting Oct. 1, replacing the current paper version. The agency aims to streamline the entry process and reduce paper waste by requiring travelers to complete the online form within three days before arrival.

Lin Tse-chien (林澤謙), the agency's secretary-general, emphasized the new system's benefits, stating that it will shorten processing time and reduce paper waste. Launched on May 5, the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) interface has received positive feedback, indicating readiness for complete implementation in October. Travelers can fill out the form in Chinese or English, with instructions in seven languages.

The system allows users to upload photos of their passport's information page, automatically populating personal data fields. This feature significantly reduces the time needed for completion. For families or groups, one person can fill out the form for up to 16 travelers, simplifying the process. Email verification is required, and a confirmation is sent upon successful submission.

Upon arrival, immigration officers will scan travelers' passports, automatically retrieving their TWAC information. The government has invested in this e-system, aligning with international trends and enhancing post-submission query and modification capabilities. To facilitate the transition, the agency has provided transportation companies TWAC QR code links for display at departure points.
