TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's central financial authority, the Central Bank of the Republic of China, Taiwan (中央銀行), on Monday (June 23) revealed the eagerly anticipated design of a commemorative silver coin honoring the national baseball team's triumphant victory at last year's prestigious WBSC Premier12 tournament. The meticulously crafted collector's item carries a face value of NT$50 (approximately US$1.69) and contains precisely 1/2 ounce of 999 fine silver, with each coin priced at NT$1,600 (approximately US$54).

The coin's obverse showcases a dynamic victory celebration with jubilant players hoisting the championship trophy aloft, a scene that encapsulates the emotional pinnacle of Taiwan's hard-fought tournament triumph. The upper rim features the inscription "Republic of China Year 114" (中華民國114年), using Taiwan's traditional calendar system that counts from 1912, while the lower portion proudly displays "3rd WBSC Premier12" (第三屆世界12強棒球錦標賽) and "Champion Commemoration" (冠軍紀念). The reverse side of the coin presents an artistic tribute to baseball's fundamental elements, with detailed engravings that capture the athletic poetry of pitching, the explosive power of batting, and the balletic precision of fielding.

Banking officials have established a production cap of 36,000 coins for this limited-edition release, implementing a strict one-coin-per-person registration policy to ensure equitable distribution among baseball enthusiasts and numismatic collectors throughout Taiwan. The Central Bank has anticipated high demand for the commemorative piece and prepared contingency measures — should pre-orders surpass the established limit, a computerized lottery system will impartially determine which applicants receive the opportunity to purchase. Prospective buyers can choose between convenient online registration through a specially developed digital platform or traditional in-person pre-order applications at designated banking locations.

Interested collectors have a limited window to secure their pre-orders, with the registration period extending through July 2, at which point the in-person application option will no longer be available. The Central Bank has established a clear timeline for the distribution process — if demand exceeds the available supply, officials will conduct the computerized lottery drawing on July 3, with results published by 6 p.m. that same day. Successful applicants must finalize their purchases by completing payment no later than 3:30 p.m. on July 11, with the bank implementing a strict policy that automatically reallocates unclaimed coins to other collectors if the payment deadline passes. ◼
