These storms will initially develop in mountainous regions before sweeping across Taiwan's western territories. Officials confirmed that Tropical Storm Sepat, which had threatened the region, weakened to a tropical depression early Tuesday morning at 2 a.m.
Morning scattered showers will dampen the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), Taiwan's southernmost region, along with portions of southern and central Taiwan. Meteorologists attribute the afternoon thunderstorm development to shifting wind patterns, which will push storm systems from mountain elevations westward across the island. Weather officials have issued warnings for potentially heavy rainfall in northern mountainous areas, while central and southern mountain regions face an elevated risk of brief but intense torrential downpours that could cause localized flooding.
The island continues to endure scorching conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius (89.6 to 95°F) across most regions. Greater Taipei, central and southern areas, and the eastern coastal city of Hualien may see temperatures climb above 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) during peak heating hours. CWA officials have advised residents to employ sun protection measures and maintain adequate hydration as ultraviolet radiation levels will reach particularly dangerous intensities around midday. Nighttime will bring only modest relief with overnight lows hovering between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius (77 to 80.6°F).
