TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislator Chen Ching-hui (陳菁徽) on Friday (June 27) criticized President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) cross-strait and foreign policies, describing them as a "mess" during his 18-month tenure. She warned that international media are warning that Taiwan might become the next battleground due to these policies.
Chen emphasized that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP, 中國共產黨) poses Taiwan's greatest threat. She expressed concern over Taiwan's inability to manage Taiwan Strait risks, which is leading to societal tensions over potential war preparedness. Chen criticized Lai for failing to reduce cross-strait war risks, a promise he made during his presidential campaign, amid severe external challenges, internal electricity shortages, and a lack of competent officials.
She further criticized the unstable international situation, noting that Middle Eastern conflicts have heightened global concerns. According to Chen, Lai's pro-independence stance could trigger a Taiwan Strait crisis, while issues like Taiwan's tariff crisis and energy security remain unresolved. She accused Lai of repeating former President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) mistakes, suggesting that Lai has become a "troublemaker" in the eyes of the U.S.
Chen warned that if Lai's actions continue to make cross-strait relations unpredictable, Taiwan will become increasingly passive between the U.S. and China, losing its ability to garner support and potentially facing marginalization by both powers.
