TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Executive Yuan (行政院) approved the "Next-Generation Communication Technology Development Plan"(次世代通訊科技發展方案) in the cabinet meeting on Thursday (July 10), committing NT$27 billion over six years to accelerate the commercialization of 6G and satellite communications.

The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC, 國家科學及技術委員會) reported that the initiative aims to bolster key application services and establish experimental networks to enhance the industrial ecosystem. According to the report, the government plans to integrate communication technology with various industries, promoting telemedicine and smart transportation advancements to reduce the digital divide.

The plan will expedite technological research and development by developing satellite ground equipment, experimental networks, and 6G simulation networks, driving the commercialization of Taiwanese communication products.

Government bodies, including the NSTC, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數位部), and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部), will assist local businesses in aligning with international standards, creating a comprehensive chain from research to market. The plan anticipates introducing three international satellite constellations by 2030 and developing ground equipment to interconnect with these global systems.

Deputy Minister Lin Faa-jeng (林法正) of the NSTC stated that the government aims to assert sovereignty in the low-Earth orbit satellite communication sector and will continue discussions with industry players. Executive Yuan spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) conveyed Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) emphasis on deepening international cooperation to strengthen Taiwan's critical position in the global supply chain.
