TAIPEI (TVBS News) — EVA Air (長榮航空), one of Taiwan's leading international carriers, issued a formal statement Tuesday (July 15) refuting allegations that parental leave factors into its compensation decisions. The airline's response follows mounting pressure after more than 60 flight attendants alleged discrimination in salary adjustments after taking time off to care for children. The Taoyuan Flight Attendants Union (TFAU, 桃園市空服員職業工會), Taiwan's primary flight attendant labor organization, subsequently convened an urgent media briefing to address these concerns.
The airline acknowledged ongoing disagreements regarding past compensation practices, announcing it would provisionally comply with regulatory guidance for upcoming 2025 salary reviews. EVA Air has already notified staff members potentially impacted during 2023 and 2024 that resolution depends on pending administrative and legal proceedings. Officials at Taiwan's Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部), the government agency overseeing labor disputes, recently dismissed the carrier's formal appeal, prompting EVA Air to express disappointment while confirming intentions to seek judicial intervention to safeguard both corporate and employee interests.
