TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Metro (台北捷運), Taiwan's capital city mass transit system, announced on Tuesday (July 15) that it has finalized contractor selection for the CF760 project, a critical segment of the eastern section of the Circular Line (環狀線). Taipei's Department of Rapid Transit Systems (捷運工程局), the municipal agency overseeing transit infrastructure, indicated that ground could be broken on the project as early as November, marking another milestone in the city's expanding transportation network.

The Department of Rapid Transit Systems revealed that a consortium formed between Taiwan's Futsu Construction Company (互助營造公司) and the Japanese firm Obayashi Corporation (日商華大林組營造公司) has secured the contract for the CF760 project. This partnership brings together local expertise with the technical capabilities of one of Japan's oldest construction companies, known for complex infrastructure projects across Asia.

The CF760 project will cover approximately 2.7 kilometers, extending southward from the Bannan Line's (板南線) Yongchun Station (永春站) through eastern Taipei's commercial district. Engineers will construct a new underground station designated Y38, creating an interchange with the Tamsui-Xinyi Line's (淡水信義線) Xiangshan Station (象山站), before terminating at the planned Y39 station near Wuxing Street (吳興街).

The CF760 project carries a budget of approximately NT$23.72 billion (about US$809.6 million), with officials finalizing the contractor selection after three competitive rounds of public bidding. The comprehensive construction plan includes deployment of two tunneling shield machines, installation of a central train siding for operational flexibility, and implementation of sophisticated water management, electrical systems, and environmental control infrastructure essential for modern underground transit operations.

Transit officials note that the southern and northern sections of the Circular Line are already under full-scale construction across multiple sites throughout the city. The eastern section's first component, designated as the CF763 project, broke ground in late 2024, making the upcoming CF760 project the second segment of the eastern portion to enter the construction phase. When completed, the Circular Line will fundamentally transform Taipei's transit network by providing crucial cross-connections between existing radial lines. ◼
