TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan has demonstrated outstanding athletic performance at the World University Games in Germany, collecting two gold, five silver, and four bronze medals as of Tuesday (July 22). In tennis, Taiwanese duo Li Yu-yun (李羽芸) and Lin Fang-an (林芳安) secured a spot in the semifinals on Wednesday, guaranteeing at least a bronze medal.
Taiwan's taekwondo team excelled, with Yang Chang-ying (楊長螢), Kuo Yen-yu (郭彥妤), and Chen Hsin-ya (陳歆雅) clinching the nation's first gold in the women's team poomsae event. This marked Taiwan's first gold in this category, surpassing our previous best of a silver medal.
Silver medals were won by Huang Ying-hsuan (黃映瑄) (women's 46kg), Hung Chun-i (洪俊義) (men's 80kg), and Chin I-chun (金怡君), a Bunun indigenous (布農族) athlete (women's +73kg). The men's team poomsae, featuring Chen Hsiao-tse (陳孝澤), Huang Yi-cheng (黃奕承), and Ke Hsiang-shuo (柯翔碩), secured bronze, as did Chiu Yi-jui (邱義睿) in the men's 74 kg sparring.
In table tennis, Kao Cheng-jui (高承睿), Feng Yi-hsin (馮翊新), Huang Yan-cheng (黃彥誠), and Chang Ping-cheng (張秉丞) made history by winning the first-ever men's team gold, ending China's six-year dominance. The women's team also secured a bronze. The team members included Chien Tung-chuan (簡彤娟), Cheng Pu-syuan (鄭樸璿), Tsai Yun-en (蔡昀恩), and Huang Yu-chieh (黃愉偼).
