TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Thursday (July 24) the launch of a comprehensive "Work Subsidy Grant" program to accelerate recovery efforts in the Chiayi (嘉義) and Tainan (台南) regions devastated by Typhoon Danas. The financial assistance program offers up to NT$30,000 (around US$1,024) per worker to incentivize participation in critical disaster recovery operations. Taiwan's cabinet has prioritized rapid reconstruction efforts following the typhoon's destructive impact on these southern counties.

Taiwan's cabinet (行政院) has already deployed multiple comprehensive support measures, including enhanced rent subsidies, loan interest relief for structural repairs, reconstruction incentives, and emergency tax exemptions for affected residents. The Executive Yuan also provides crucial assistance to local governments in establishing specialized advisory teams focused on rebuilding damaged aging infrastructure. Cabinet spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) emphasized that acute shortages of construction labor and building materials prompted coordinated intervention by the minister without portfolio and Public Construction Commission leadership.

Deputy Interior Minister Tung Chien-hung (董建宏) documented extensive structural damage to roofs, walls, and infrastructure from Typhoon Danas's devastating winds. Contractors seeking work subsidy grants must provide comprehensive before-and-after photographic documentation of completed repairs. Wu Hsin-hsou (吳欣修), director of the National Land Management Agency (國土署), confirmed implementation plans will advance to Taiwan's cabinet next week, with official letters dispatched to local governments.

Tainan City and Chiayi County authorities have commenced processing applications for emergency disaster recovery relief funds from typhoon-affected residents. Applicants must submit detailed photographic evidence of property damage alongside required supporting documentation to qualify for financial assistance. Administrative data collected Thursday morning revealed that Tainan City had processed 9,673 relief applications, while Chiayi County recorded 606 submissions from disaster-impacted households. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$29.307).
