TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Exhausted but triumphant students from Kaohsiung Senior High School completed a grueling 28-day charity walk around Taiwan on Monday (July 28), carrying sacred statues of the Three Prince Generals, traditional deities in Chinese folk religion. The determined group reached their final destination at the Chio-Tian Folk Drums & Art Troupe center in Taichung, the same location where their extraordinary journey began nearly a month earlier. Their 1,035-kilometer trek challenged them through scorching heat and torrential downpours that tested their resolve at every turn.
The remarkable journey formed part of the "Chio-Tian Cup Princes Ultimate Island Race," an annual charity event that began in 2022 to support social welfare organizations across Taiwan. Twenty-one participants joined this year's expedition, with seven brave students taking on the ultimate physical and mental challenge. Team captain Cheng Kuan-sheng and instructor Sun I-hung led the group when they departed on July 1st, beginning what would become an unforgettable test of endurance and community spirit.
Typhoon Danas threatened to derail their mission, but the resilient students pushed forward through punishing heat, fierce winds, and relentless rainfall. The team maintained their unwavering commitment to continue unless local authorities canceled work and classes due to severe typhoon conditions. Their homecoming celebration brought together proud parents and school administrators who gathered to honor these young heroes for completing one of Taiwan's most demanding charity challenges.
